Strengthening French-Language, Open Scholarly Publishing through Réseau Circé
Anne Marie-Fortier, Université Laval
Gillian Lane-Mercier, McGill University
Réseau Circé brings together the French-language scholarly publishing community to jointly support Quebec’s scientific journals in transitioning toward a diamond open access model—one that imposes no fees for publishing or reading.
Panelists will discuss how the network will support scientific journals, promote open access to publications, and foster collaboration among researchers, publishers, and institutions of higher education, in order to ensure the visibility and sustainability of French-language research in a globalized academic context.
The discussion will highlight the role of Réseau Circé’s four hubs: the Platform Hub, which will focus on digital tools and infrastructure; the Libraries Hub, providing support for research libraries and resources; the Discoverability Hub, which aims to enhance the discoverability of French-language research; and the Journals Hub, fostering collaboration between publishers and scholarly communities. These hubs will serve as centers of innovation and expertise, ensuring that resources and initiatives are accessible across Quebec’s academic landscape.
The discussion will emphasize the importance of continued collaboration, funding, and ensuring Quebec’s future leadership in open science and linguistic diversity in academic communication.
