Social science is largely shaped by understanding the social and political context and phenomena formed by the Industrial Revolution and later the modern and post-modern periods. In recent years a number of real or perceived existential threats, ranging from war, the climate crisis, falling birth rates and Artificial Intelligence have challenged the foundations of how researchers understand and explain society. There is a need to consider what social and political forms best account for the social trends in existential times.
