This panel will address the recent rethinking within medieval studies of sexualized and gendered violence in the Middle Ages. Over the past 10-15 years there has been an explosion of studies by feminist and gender scholars such as Carissa Harris, Jacqueline Murray, Katherine Walton and others redressing the field’s dismissal of or disinterest in gendered violence. This panel proposes to collect new work and new research in this field, drawing on both literary scholars and historians.
