The Student Association of George Brown College will be showcasing the collaborative initiative between the Student Nutrition Access Program (SNAP) and the Chef’s School, aimed to promote student food security and reduce food waste by creating meals and other culinary delights using surplus ingredients from GBC’s cooking and baking labs, which are then distributed to the larger GBC student community.

SNAP and the Chef’s School will be putting together a 10 – 15 minute documentary-style video featuring the full circle of the initiative – from the preparation of sweet and savoury dishes by chef faculty and students, picking up the items from the Inventory Control Centre (ICC), to the distribution of meals through SNAP. The documentary will be played on a loop, which will be accompanied by cake pops created using surplus ingredients for visitors to experience the treats that GBC’s student community received, and a photo-narrative display featuring students who have experienced the impact of this innovative initiative. Our hope is to showcase the various processes and people who contribute to the success of this initiative, along with the impact through storytelling.
